Are Single Moms included in Romney’s 47%?

Updated: September 20, 2012

September 2012: As a single mother who is either unemployed and wishing to further your education, or employed part or full time and looking to combine that with higher studies at college or university, you may be well offended at Mitt Romney’s recent remarks that 47% of the American population do not pay taxes and consider themselves victims.

In truth, many like yourself would love to be in a position where you are paying income tax (many of you probably already are, combined with single motherhood).

The problem lies in the extreme difficulties in being a single mom, plus an employee or small business owner, plus someone who sees the vast benefits in gaining a degree or other qualification through expensive higher education.

Often, being in that position can lead to an inability to work enough to reach the tax-free threshold, or to even work at all, not to mention finding the money to pay for college.

Read one story about a woman who represents the reality for many single moms: hard working, extremely busy, underpaid, and with a strong will to make life better for herself and her child. This is an excellent article that is well worth your time to read: Single Mother, 47 Percenter: ‘Sometimes You Do Need Help’

Hi, I’m a 47 yr.old single Mom. I’m working part-time making $10.95 an hour my rent is $850.00 per month. My son gets Soc. Security and his check pays the rent. I’m tired of living off my 6 yr.old. I’m eager n excited to go to college get a degree n provide him with great n fine things. However, college is costly. I signed up at Westwood for Jan.2015 but I need n want scholarship assistance to offset the cost. So I can treat my children to so of the finest things.
